A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith is a new favorite of mine.
I came across this book while I was perusing the shelves of the Lexington Public Library. The book was first published in 1943, and the story was set between 1900 and 1917. Yet the story of the Nolan's, I feel, transcends time.
Betty Smith's narration flowed smoothly at every page, and it invoked very strong emotions from the readers.
Seriously, if you have not read this book. DO SO NOW!
